24-Hour Emergency Response
Our crew was first to arrive on the scene. Upon their arrival, there was still standing water throughout the building. For large water losses, we often work in conjunction with plumbers as they are able to correct the source of the water while our team mitigates the damage. The plumbing company that was contacted for the repairs was not able to respond as quickly, so our crew stayed onsite to prevent any further deterioration until the plumbers arrived.
Unfortunately, the plumber was not able to repair the sewage backup quickly, so our team remained in the building all night extracting water until early the next morning. Once the standing water was extracted, we focused our efforts on the source of the water, and cleared it as it flowed.
Water Mitigation & Cleanup
To address the source, the plumbers used specialized jet equipment to ensure the backup was completely cleared before we proceeded with further water mitigation. The water jet uses incredibly pressurized water to clear the drains and pipes of any debris and allow for steady water flow. If this is not done correctly, it can lead to another water loss incident down the line. As soon as the source of the water was contained and repaired, mitigation could begin without the threat of more overflow.
In addition, since this was a sewage backup, the water was considered Category 3, or black water. For this reason, the water also needed to be disposed of at a sanitary location. Furthermore, this type of water caused displacement of the residents. It is not healthy to be in an environment with Category 3 water, so they were not able to return until after mitigation and cleaning was complete. To aid the distressed residents, our crews set up pods and packed out any contents that could be saved and cleaned.
Removal of Water Damaged Materials
After the salvageable items and materials were recovered, our team removed any unsalvageable materials. These included saturated carpets, damaged baseboard, damp insulation, and a plethora of other items and fixtures.
Following the demolition and removal of unsalvageable materials, our crews commenced a thorough, three-step bio-wash process of all affected apartments and areas. We meticulously cleaned any and all surfaces that the bacteria-ridden water may have come in contact with. Once all areas were thoroughly cleaned, we were able to move on to the drying phase.
Drying & Reconstruction
Our crews established a drying system throughout all of the apartments and common areas. This helps to dry the building itself along with any fixtures that could not be placed in pods. We also arranged equipment to help with deodorization, as there were still lingering scents from the water. Ultimately, it ended up taking five days to completely dry the structure and fixtures. During this time, our team visited to the building periodically to run dry checks and ensure the areas did not remaining saturated. MacFawn also took part in the reconstruction to repair the areas that could not be completely saved.
